S&P Global Adds datacenterHawk to Its AI Toolkit

S&P Global has agreed to acquire datacenterHawk, bringing two detailed sources of data center intelligence under one roof. Announced on July 28, 2026, the deal combines S&P’s 451 Research forecasting and power-market intelligence with datacenterHawk’s supply, demand, pricing, fiber and power infrastructure data.

The fit comes as AI infrastructure buildouts collide with grid constraints and rising demand for capacity. datacenterHawk offers asset-level visibility through its market data and Fiber Locator platform, while S&P brings a broader global analytical engine. Together, the datasets could give operators and investors a clearer view of capacity, cost and carbon exposure across streaming, CDN and hyperscale environments.

For companies deciding where to build, lease or invest, that detail matters. Broad market reports can miss local constraints in fiber availability and power supply, two factors that increasingly shape data center economics. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary conditions.

David Liggitt, founder and CEO of datacenterHawk, put the rationale plainly. “The data center market has become a critical intersection point for AI, energy, capital investment and sustainability,” he said. That overlap is changing how enterprises assess colocation, how utilities plan grid expansion and how investors evaluate infrastructure risk.

The combined data could also strengthen sustainability reporting as operators face greater regulatory scrutiny. Real-time tracking of fiber and power constraints, paired with S&P’s forecasting models, may help enterprise customers test scenarios across sites operating under different regulatory conditions.

For investors, the prize is a richer stream of signals on how the energy transition is affecting digital infrastructure. As AI drives demand for computing capacity, the ability to see where power, fiber and available space are tightening could become as valuable as the capacity itself.
